The past couple of weeks in Puebla have been a whirlwind of heart, heat (from the abundant, diverse and spicy chiles), and holy moments.  We've enjoyed countless hours walking around the local Zócalo, Puebla's lively town square, where history and culture from five major indigenous ethnic groups (Nahuas,Totonacs, Mixtecs, Popolocas, and Otomi) pulses with its enchanting, colorful colonial buildings. The square is packed with music, vendors calling out their wares, and the smell of mole follows you like a holy incense. It’s no wonder Puebla is known as the gastronomic capital of Mexico—we have tried so many unique dishes, both traditional Mexican dishes and fusion surprises. Catching our Breath!

We’ve finally had a moment to breathe. After church last Sunday, we came back to our apartment and took a long nap—our first weekend with no field trips or homework. It felt so freeing!    We would be lying if we told you we weren’t tired, a bit overwhelmed with our new surroundings, and so many changes! The Spanish-a-thon has worn out even me—queen of FOMO and never wanting to miss a thing. The neighborhood/colonial we will live in is called La Paz, peace.  It seems fitting for us! On the bright side, we just finished our Week 3 class (half-way mark!), and Pat says he’s already learned more than he did in an entire semester of high school Spanish. Let’s just hope it sticks!  Right now our brains are in overload with remembering the differnt pronunciation of each letter! The Big Announcement!

Here is a copy of the social post we shared in mid February 2025. YES, IT IS TRUE. . . WE ARE MOVING TO MEXICO! Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I will go, Lord, if You lead me. Starting in July, Pat and I we will be serving as co-directors of Arbol de Vida Training Center at Give Ye Them to Eat (GYTTE) in Puebla, Mexico. Founded as a social outreach project of the Methodist Church of Mexico to combat hunger and poverty in the rural sector, GYTTE uses people-centered approaches to increase the understanding of impoverished families in rural Mexico. While the administration part of our work will take place in Puebla, a lot of our time will be spent in about 2 ½ hours south in a town called Tlancualpican. The Training Center features an experiential teaching farm that is maintained for agricultural and livestock production to improve family nutrition and increase family income.
