Running and Rest…

Our recent week-long trip back to the U.S. was a whirlwind of both work and family joy. The main task: securing our official Menaje (Household Goods Import Certificate) from the Mexico Consulate in Phoenix. Mission accomplished!

From there, we soaked up some poolside moments and sweet visits with Kim’s family before heading to Wyoming.

In Wyoming, we rolled up our sleeves to sort through our household goods for their second journey south. It’s funny what three months of distance can do—suddenly, three bags of “essentials” didn’t seem so essential after all! We also had the blessing of celebrating with the Lewis family at our niece Whitney’s beautiful wedding to Kasey—a true highlight of the trip.

Back in Puebla, we arrived just in time for the vibrant festivities of Mexico’s Independence Day. Participating in the traditional Grito de Dolores—the powerful cry of “¡Viva!”—was unforgettable. The night pulsed with joy, music, and the colors of freedom and unity.

Then came a rainy day, which offered the perfect excuse to slow down, settle into our apartment, and enjoy being surrounded by the belongings we’d carefully brought along. Between unpacking and diving into the many projects awaiting us, life has been full! Still, amid the busyness, we’re beginning to sense where God is calling us and are grateful for the kindred spirits He continues to place in our path.

But there’s also been rest. Puebla’s coffee has become a faithful companion during our pauses—moments to breathe, reconnect, and simply be. Rest, we’re reminded, isn’t optional; it’s holy. In a world where we’re often consumed by change and uncertainty, stopping to listen for God is essential.

Here’s a simple breath prayer we’ve been practicing. Maybe you’d like to join us right now:

  • Breathe in God.
  • Breathe out stress and worry.
  • Breathe in God’s presence.
  • Sit in stillness with the Divine.
  • Breathe out all that separates you from Him.
  • Breathe in God’s goodness.
  • Breathe out and share it with the world.

We are God’s vessels. He is with us. Always. Amen.

On a lighter note, Kim’s phone went missing during an Uber ride to pick up delicious tacos arabe—proof of just how dependent we’ve all become on technology! A humbling few days, to say the least.  But amazing food!

As we continue to settle, our blog posts will likely become less frequent, with a new monthly mission newsletter taking their place. Stay tuned for our very first issue soon!

Grace and peace until next time.
