“Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given you through prophecy when the elders laid their hands on you.” — 1 Timothy 4:14 This week at Árbol de Vida Training Center (aka Gringo Ranch) has been FULL—full of people, learning, laughter, hard work, and most importantly, gifts being discovered and shared.  We welcomed 17 Community Health Promoters, a visiting nursing educator/Deaconess/my friend (Ronda), a returning mission team member (Marian), and a whole lot of energy and enthusiasm from Ivonne, Panchita and Estela who led the course. We explored safe water, sanitation, hygiene, and healthy living. We built an eco-sustainable dry composting toilet, celebrated the official debut of our Hope on Wheels trailer, and put our training to work during a dental hygiene workshop in a local village with children. Cheers to 2026!

Happy New Year! The holiday season flew by in a blink. Christmas in Mexico was beautifully, unexpectedly different—rich with color, rhythm, and reverence. We loved seeing the season through another culture’s eyes, though the biggest difference this year was a tender one: we weren’t with our family, and that absence was deeply felt. Still, Puebla held us in its joy. From celebrating the coming of Christ, through the twelve days of Christmas, and all the way to Día de los Reyes, we were reminded that even when traditions shift and settings change, the heart of the story never does. We even attended our first Mexican Methodist potluck. Let me just say: Yum. Loaves and fishes have nothing on this crowd.  I would add this experience as a few of my top favorite gastronomical feasts in Puebla! Christmas Eve services were especially beautiful. Hands to Care, Hearts to Act—The Gift of Medical Hospitality

Pat and I spent this past week at the ranch/farm with the Give Ye Them To Eat team, helping facilitate a week of training with a truly picturesque backdrop. Árbol Vida (Tree of Life) is always the perfect setting for an outdoor classroom—you simply can’t beat the beauty of God’s creation, fresh air, and the sense of peace that fills this sacred place. Alongside the training, we also carved out time to continue preparing the ranch house that we will begin calling home, part-time, starting in September. We both were indoctrinated with hornet stings (and learned several homeopathic remedies that work!) and visits from scorpions and tarantulas.   We also have been learning how to do our laundry-ranch style.
