Is “It” in You?

“Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given you through prophecy when the elders laid their hands on you.” — 1 Timothy 4:14 This week at Árbol de Vida Training Center (aka Gringo Ranch) has been FULL—full of people, learning, laughter, hard work, and most importantly, gifts being discovered and shared.  We welcomed 17 Community Health Promoters, a visiting nursing educator/Deaconess/my friend (Ronda), a returning mission team member (Marian), and a whole lot of energy and enthusiasm from Ivonne, Panchita and Estela who led the course. We explored safe water, sanitation, hygiene, and healthy living. We built an eco-sustainable dry composting toilet, celebrated the official debut of our Hope on Wheels trailer, and put our training to work during a dental hygiene workshop in a local village with children. Imagine singing all the hymns you know and love—in Spanish. It was powerful and joyful, ending wi...

We were so blessed to host my mom and my cousin Chris last week. There’s something special about showing the people you love the place you now call home. Getting to “show off” our life in Puebla and at the ranch was truly a gift!  We went full tourist — Lucha Libre wrestling with Cemitas, Talavera factory tour, museums, incredible food, artisan markets, and wandering the Zócalo. I think they were pleasantly surprised at just how safe, vibrant and beautiful this part of Mexico is. One highlight was climbing the Great Pyramid in Cholula and heading up to the church on top to receive our ashes. Ancient stones beneath us, colonial church above us, and that quiet reminder: Remember you are dust. Perspective hits differently when you’re standing on centuries of history. Chris, an amazing photographer, captured beautiful new photos for Give Ye Them To Eat — and some sweet ones of Mom and me, and Pat and me. Treasures for sure.  ...
